When Black Cap Daryl Mitchell decided to electrify his Christchurch home with solar, he had two main motivations: reducing his long-term energy costs and doing his part to shrink his climate footprint. Now that his solar system is up and running, Daryl is excited about what sustainable generation means for his whānau and for New Zealand’s future.

As he puts it: “I think it’s really important, trying to generate power sustainably… Now as a Dad with kids, I’m just trying to prolong the amazing life that we have and, in the long term, make a big difference.”

With Ecotricity’s ecoSOLAR plan, Daryl enjoys leading peak buyback rates that help maximise his panels. And the impact is spreading, he’s already influencing some of his cricket teammates with young families: “Obviously there’s a few Dads in the team as well and they’re recognising how much their power bills are going up with kids running around the house now, so I’m sure they’ll be investing in solar in the near future.”

A huge thank-you to Endless Energy for delivering a seamless installation experience, with Daryl’s set-up ready to go by the time he returned from tour! We love seeing more and more Kiwis take steps on their sustainability journey. Solar adoption is rising rapidly across New Zealand, and stories like Daryl’s show just how easy the transition can be.
