
Households could save thousands of dollars a year by replacing fossil-fuelled appliances and petrol vehicles with electric alternatives, but many will need longer-term finance to get over the upfront cost barrier, Rewiring Aotearoa says. The electrification group’s new Electric Homes and Vehicles report said household economics have shifted since its 2024 modelling, with the savings gap from switching to electric appliances, vehicles, solar and batteries having doubled.
