Both National and Labour are rolling out new solar power proposals ahead of the election, and it's clear there's mood for change. Current WorkSafe rules prohibit the use of certain plug-in solar systems because connecting solar panels directly to standard household plugs is considered a safety risk. Rewiring Aotearoa CEO Mike Casey says most political parties are getting behind new proposed energy changes and it's very exciting for the sector.

Dr Nick Smith, mayor of Nelson and ex-National Party minister, is an early adopter when it comes to electric machines but, through his efforts with the council and his close involvement with the Ratepayer Assistance Scheme, he's also embracing one of Rewiring's core mantras: once you've electrified your own life, electrify someone else's life, too.
