Electrify Wānaka is a volunteer run community group set up to promote the economic, social, health and environmental benefits of electrification for our town.
With the current energy crisis, the cost of living is once again front and center on everyone’s mind.
This is why Electrify Wānaka is organising our first electric open home.
Our first home shows that everyone can benefit from electrification, it is a basic spec home built in 1999 and fully electrified since 2018. The total savings since electrifying this home have been more than $50,000 in running costs.
During the tour, we will cover the costs, the returns, what we should prioritise when electrifying and how to maximise the benefits of a solar system or the benefits of an electric home without solar.
The event is free but please RSVP at electrify.wanaka@gmail.com

We are excited to extend an invitation to all members of the New Zealand electrical industry to join us at the NZ Electrical Conference 2025.
This year, as we mark our 100th anniversary, we have designed a conference that not only celebrates our rich heritage, but also paves the way for future innovation. We’ll kick things off by jumping into the future at our very unique welcome celebration.
Our lineup of keynote speakers features Lance Burdett, who will offer valuable insights that challenge and broaden your perspective on how we approach various concepts. Sir Ian Taylor will then give you a taste of what the future holds for the electrical industry.
But the experience doesnt stop there...
We’re also taking you beyond the conference room to visit the Southern Hemisphere’s only fully electric orchard—the Electric Cherry Farm, hosted by Mike Casey. This visit is a hands-on demonstration of sustainable innovation that you won’t want to miss.
We’ll cap off the weekend with a spectacular centenary celebration, honouring a century of excellence and lighting the way to a brighter future.

The Queenstown Electrification Accelerator team is part of WAO’s Better Building Day programme.
In this interactive workshop, co-hosted with TMCo, we’ll explore how different building types perform, their energy efficiency, and how core systems, such as heating and cooling, hot water, cooking, and on-site generation like solar, influence both energy use and emissions. You’ll learn how to identify opportunities to reduce energy waste, upgrade to electrified solutions such as heat pumps and induction, and integrate renewable generation and storage.
The session will focus on how these design and retrofit choices can cut operating costs, improve occupant comfort, and future-proof buildings in a world rapidly shifting to clean electricity.
