Press Release | Exciting News for Kiwis: A Clear Vision to Electrify for a Sustainable and Abundant Future!

“Having successfully electrified 20 machines on my cherry farm, saving thousands on energy bills and saving about 60 tonnes of emissions annually, I believe that pivotal decisions for our emissions reduction will be made around the dinner table. The best part, we can save money on our energy bills in homes, businesses, and on farms, " says Mike Casey, CEO Rewiring Aotearoa.

Exciting News for Kiwis: A Clear Vision to Electrify for a Sustainable and Abundant Future!

Finally, there's a clear, actionable, and abundant vision for individual Kiwis to make a meaningful impact on lowering emissions, reducing bills, and increasing resilience. The key lies in electrifying fossil fuel machines in homes, businesses, and farms – a win-win-win for the economy, the environment, and our communities.

Introducing Rewiring Aotearoa, an NGO dedicated to driving rapid action and being a strong voice for Kiwis during the energy transition to ensure all of our futures are abundant.

After six months of research and development from a group of New Zealand leaders who work within the climate, energy, policy, data and storytelling space, Rewiring Aotearoa stepped into the public eye last week with Saul Griffith passing on the batten to Mike Casey who announced his next move from his electric cherry farm to becoming CEO of Rewiring Aotearoa.

Mike Casey's personal journey reflects his dedication to electrification.

“I want to make New Zealand the first country in the world to have a zero fossil fuel economy.” states Casey.

Saul Griffith is an author, engineer, and entrepreneur specialising in energy technologies who founded Rewiring America and Australia.

“Electrification is how we reduce emissions at scale this decade while creating an abundant future for our communities. We spend millions every year in our communities on fossil fuels, the efficiency of electric machines means we can save millions as we electrify, and we can power them with lower cost electricity. After being in New Zealand again, meeting with leaders and understanding the New Zealand energy system, I think NZ has a huge opportunity. An opportunity to lead the world on climate while saving billions in the economy. Showing the world how to innovate as a nation to a thriving zero fossil fuel economy that helps secure an abundant future.” said Saul Griffith, founder of Rewiring America and Australia.

Rewiring Aotearoa is an independent non-partisan non-profit dedicated to representing the people in the energy system. We empirically demonstrate and openly communicate practical decarbonisation across all sectors. Data-led climate action for the benefit of our communities. We work with industry, government, and on the ground with communities.
